Embryo Flushing is part of a procedure called, Embryo Transfer (ET). It is an advanced reproductive tool that enables you to produce more offspring from an elite cow which extends the outstanding cattle genetics.
Lolo Trail Ranch can provide all elements of Wagyu genetics at our state-of-the-art facility. We work with only top, specialized and certified veterinarians who have decades of ET experience and in-depth knowledge.
ET involves a specific hormonal treatment called, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This hormone is given to the donor cow which causes her reproductive system to ovulate multiple eggs, rather than just one. The donor cows are then bred by artificial insemination (AI) and the eggs become fertilized embryos. Approximately seven days after insemination, the embryos are non-surgically collected, or "flushed" from the donor cow's uterus. At this stage of the process, the embryos will either be transferred fresh into a recipient cow, or frozen until future use.
A recipient cow serves as a surrogate mother by having the flushed embryos from the donor cow, implanted into her uterus. She too has been treated with FSH as to be hormonally sync'd for a perfect embryonic transfer. If the embryos are not freshly transferred, they are cryo-preserved in liquid nitrogen. They will remain in nitrogen storage vessels for future use.
It takes a total of sixteen days from when the donor cow begins to be prepared with FSH, until the veterinarian arrives to complete the ET procedure. An embryo flushing procedure can be performed on a donor female every 28-60 days. The average number of transferrable embryos per flushing is five to six, but can be more or less.
All Lolo Trail Ranch embryos are washed and labeled according to the International Embryo Transfer Societies protocol.
